My Friend Sonja and I had a lotion and deodorant party!!!! I went to pay my friend a visit and when I arrived at her house she had all these ingredients laid out on her kitchen table and she said were making lotion!!!! I love this stuff and when I saw all these ingredients I became so excited to get started. My Friend Sonja is a very special friend of mine that I hold very close to my heart. She was inspired to make homemade lotion because a friend of hers has a baby with eczema. She wanted to make something for the Baby that was free of harmful chemicals.
After that, my friend Sonja was on the loose. 🙂 We stared our evening first making Deodorant. we added Arrowroot, Baking Soda that is free of Aluminum, and Almond oil. We melted bees wax, melted Cocoa butter wafers, melted coconut oil in mason jars. We placed the mason jars inside of a pot with water and melted the ingredients on the stove. To finish we added lime, and lemon essential oil for a nice scent.
This was an experiment of trial and error. We both have made homemade deodorant in the past and we both felt like there was an ingredient missing. Adding bees wax and essential oil was a brilliant idea that Sonja came up with, and it makes a big difference. she bought all the ingredients, and deodorant sticks at community foods, our local health food store so we can make the products and place the deodorant in.
You can also use a jar or an old deodorant stick as well. I just used some of our deodorant today that we made and it works great, it goes on smooth and smells really fresh. Great Quality deodorant without all the harmful chemicals that have been known to cause cancer. yay !!!!! it was easy to make and fun!!!!! and the more you do it the easier it gets.
we made a stick each for each other, and Sonja sent a jar for my Mom. If everyone was aware of the harmful chemicals that are in a lot of our beauty products we would all be making our own. especially after realizing how easy and inexpensive it is. it’s also a great way to spend some time with friends if your friends find making holistic products something of interest.
I Love Love Love this cream. Sonja and I had lots of fun and frustration with this one. This product was a little tricky and the clean up did take some time, but it was completely worth it. the way this cream feels on your skin is so nourishing. Sonja and I kept trying to come up with the right name to describe the feeling of this cream on our skin. we thought luxurious, clean, nourishing, soaking up in our skin . We could not describe just how good it felt. Its all natural and our skin was just absorbing this goodness… especially living in Calgary where it’s really dry, a good cream makes world of a difference.
For this product we used coconut oil, beeswax, coco butter wafers, and we melted all these together. We accidentally added the essential oils which we were supposed to add after at the end, but oh well we kept pushing through. We let the ingredients cool down. we let one batch cool in a blender and the other batch we let cool in a mixer. Once the ingredients cooled down we added aloe vera gel. we had the right measurement for one batch, and half of the right amount for the other batch.
The batch that we mixed in the mixer worked wonderfully but the batch in the blender however Sonja really worked it. After a few times of getting her mixing tools stuck in the blade and almost 40 min of mixing she got a wonderful consistency. we noticed the batch that had the “right” measurement of Aloe was a bit more liquidy than what we were looking for. The mixer worked really well because it just blended through everything well. The Blender was a bit tricky because the ingredients were to dry for the blade to mix the hardened ingredients. Sonja added almond oil, and melted coconut oil to help. We made Mental notes of what worked and what didn’t work, and what we will try next time, and how much ingredients we will add more of or less of etc….. I feel like the more we do something the better and easier it will be to make it in the future. we also added different essential oils to the mix. one batch we did Rosewater, lemon, lime, and the other one we added vanilla oil. We also added more melted Cocoa butter wafers to both batches.
Why go through all this?? why not just buy body butter or creams in the store?? Sonja and I, and many other people want to learn how to make these beauty products because a lot of ingredients that are in our beauty products are not good for us. They are harmful and have been known to cause cancers along with other illnesses. Ignorance is bliss, but now that I know this ,I am consciously aware now that with my hard earned money, am paying for products that have the potential of harming my health. I choose now not to continue doing this and instead using my hard earned money to buy and make products that meet my beauty product needs without harming myself, and as a bonus this saves me money!!!! I have a lot to learn and it seems like a lot but I’m realizing now that just because something is unfamiliar to me does not mean it cannot be easily incorporated into my life. Once something becomes familiar it will then become easy. After melting ingredients and making these products with Sonja it has helped me see that It can be done and it can become easy once I get the hang of it. Once Sonja and I master these ingredients I will post the exact measurements and share the products with everyone.
Thank you Sonja for such a fun night, for all the laughs, all the love, and for supplying us with all the necessary ingredients to make our products. Love you to bits, so grateful to have such a special friend like you… Night Peeps!!! Happy creating !!!!
