Sleep Depravation …

I have been so fortunate to be free from Minimum crew rest for the last 6 months. The Hawaii flying Has been beautiful. We had early mornings at the beginning of our trips but once we were on the road the wake up times for check in were very reasonable. I would be tired waking up to start my trip at 4am, but  once I was at work I was having so much fun with crew that I didn’t think about sleep. We all were so excited to be going to Hawaii that it didn’t matter. We worked hard and the light at the end of the tunnel was ending  up in a Tropical paradise at the end of the day . I was especially excited when overnighting in Maui. That was my favourite.  Now the Hawaii flying is done for the season and Its back to reality.

maui

I was blessed with a 4:40am Checkin on my schedule. When I saw the checkin Time I wanted to cry. I was offered some trades for this trip but those trips were even worse, so I decided to stick it out. I didn’t want to go through no sleep, and I didn’t want to take sleeping pills. I don’t want to become dependant on taking them so I went to the health food store.  The lady in the store was really nice and she helped me to figure something out.

BachShe helped me choose this Bach remedy. This is a Natural product made from flowers. Bach remedies are great products that have been around for years. This product is made by Dr.Bach. He has made 38 flower remedies for different issues.  if your interested in learning more  here is the website     www.BachFlower.com

There is a lot of stress I feel with really early am wake ups or checkins because Im always so stressed about sleeping in through my alarm. Waking up at 3am or 4am is not a normal wake up time so at times falling asleep is stressful  because If I don’t fall asleep right away I feel pressure  to sleep or else I won’t be getting any sleep at at all. Its just a never ending battle. Good thing I love my job so this is just part of the game.

melatoninMelatonin is amazing. I have been using this for a long time. Melatonin is a chemical that our brain produces naturally to sleep. I use it from time to time when I have troubles sleeping. I find that Melatonin works for me when I am wired. When I know I am exhausted but for whatever reason I can’t sleep, Melatonin helps me to doze off. But If I am wide awake then Melatonin does not help me fall asleep.

I had a very  busy day the night before my trip, so I was ready to get a good night sleep. I took the melatonin and rescue remedy around 9pm. I was in bed by 10pm and I actually fell asleep around 11pm. My alarm went off at 3am and I woke up feeling really good. I didn’t get much sleep but It was not a broken sleep. I felt so grateful that I felt good. I took these remedies with me and 3 out of the 4 nights the Remedies worked. I only had 1 night, my last night, where I fell asleep at 9:30pm and woke up at 2am. I had to wake up at 4am. But with time zone changes my body clock was awake and there was nothing I could do. I was exhausted the last day at work. I was just dreaming  of my bed and my pyjamas the whole day. There have been trips where I don’t get any sleep. The worst that has ever happened was for 5 days I could not sleep at all. I was ready to just cry. I don’t know why I was not able to but it was awful. Thankfully that only happened once.

So overall my sleep solution was a success . To have been able to get 3 out of 4 good night sleeps was good for me. I felt great throughout my days at work except the last day. It had taken its toll and I was just ready to be done. When I finally got home I wanted to kiss the floor because I was so happy to be home.  I jumped into the shower threw on my pyjamas and jumped into my bed and I just slept and slept and slept and It was the most wonderful thing ever.   Im glad I found a remedy to help me sleep so that I don’t have to resort to taking sleeping pills. For those people that have to Take sleeping pills so be it, because not sleeping at all is worse. If I have to take them one day It will be because I tried everything else first. So I will keep trying this for now and hopefully It will keep working. Until then I will be dreaming of Maui until Im back next season hopefully 🙂

I am not a doctor and I don’t recommend or not recommend these products. I am just sharing what has been working for me personally.

Thanks for reading!!!! 🙂

A Fruity Disaster in Honolulu

I have been reading up a lot on Raw food lately, and Its something that I am really excited about incorporating into my diet. I was In Honolulu and I decided that I would try raw fruits and veggies for my flight home. I was really pumped about trying this and felt a load off my shoulders thinking of how simple this would be, to just load up on fruit ad veggies and be ready to go. No preparing, no fussing, no cooking, and It’s healthy, It was a dream.

I walked over to the grocery store called the Food Pantry, and loaded up. I bought strawberries, plums, peaches, and a few Bananas. I have learned that when eating raw you need to make sure your getting your calorie intake for the day, so Quantity  along with quality is very important. The fruit would be for lunch, and for dinner I bought a bag of salad.I bought some lemons to squeeze for the dressing to go with my salad.I had it all worked out.

photo

When I got back to my hotel, I disinfected the sink with my cleaning wipes and cleaned the fruit really well. I had an amazing workout that morning and was so excited to see how eating raw would make me feel. I hoped that I would have more energy and that I would feel great.

So I started work in the friendly skies, and was having a great day. After first service I was really hungry. I opened up my lunch kit and was ready for this new experience. I took a bite out of the peach and It was not too bad, but then after eating more I found the fruit did not taste fresh and was very dry. I ate most of it, but had to stop. So I went ahead and had the plum. Even worse. It was a little brown on the inside, and was very dry as well. Both fruits had very little flavour. This was not how I planned things would go. So I thought well the strawberries have to be good. Negative, awful as well. All the fruit I bought  had no juices, were dry, and some parts brown. What a disasterl!!!!!! How do you go grocery shopping on a tropical island and find fruit to eat that is horrible????

It was a complete fail, but I still had my dinner. I open the bag of salad and It was horrible too. It had no flavour and the lettuce was a bit soggy. The lemons however were good for the dressing…(at least one item tasted the way it should  ). I threw everything out. $40 bucks American down the drain and a Hungry Flight Attendant later I caved, and had a crew meal. These Crew meals are probably one of the worst foods for your health that you can eat on the planet. But I was starving and had no place to go to get food .

photoThis is the picture of the good looking fruit I bought. The colours were bright, and everything looked so ripe and juicy. I have bought fruit from the Food Pantry before and It was really good. What kind of luck was this on my Raw food adventure. I had to just laugh about it, what else are you going to do. What is the  lesson here? I wanted to eat fruit and salad and it so happened that every single item I bought tasted horrible. The lesson is Don’t take life seriously. It won’t change the circumstance anyway.

photo-1My Second attempt was a success. The next morning back at home I hit the grocery store for another shot. I needed to erase the bad experience and replace it with a better one. Back In Calgary where its similar to a desert I found beautiful, juicy, delicious fruit. I added Bananas, mangos, strawberries, and plums. I added some lemon juice as well, and It was really tasty. I loved that It was quick, no cooking, and very filling.  I really enjoyed how fresh everything tasted. After eating my lunch I felt really inspired and had a great amount of energy. A lot of times I have so much going on and It can be really busy. I get so involved in my to do list that eating sometimes feels like a chore, and at times I forget that I have not eaten. Adding some Raw food into my diet is healthy and it  saves me time because its so quick. the only preparation is cleaning the fruit well and cutting it.  Its fast filling, and it feels great!!!! it was worth the effort!!! 🙂 Success!!!! yay!!!

Thanks for reading!! Talk soon 🙂

Juice that will Alkalize your body yay

Wow it has been forever since I have been able to blog. My computer crashed, So I have fallen behind. I have so much new info and now I have to catch up with writing. I have noticed comments from people who are enjoying my page and who are benefiting from this info. that is so amazing !!!! Im so happy that more people are joining me on this journey!!  ok So I have a new computer and Im back yay!!!

IMG_3266I got this recipe from a website called FullyRaw Kristina. I found her on Youtube www.youtube.com/fullyrawkristina. Check her out on youtube, Facebook, and twitter if you want more info. This women is amazing. She has inspired me to incorporate raw foods into my diet. Kristina is fully raw. Truthfully I don’t think I will ever be fully raw, but I know I can incorporate  raw food into my diet.  I have learned a lot from watching her over the last couple of months. She is so positive and inspiring, she is really uplifting  to watch. I’m excited to share this juice with you. Here is Kristinas Alkalizing Juice recipe .

2 Lemons, Whole head of spinach, whole head of Celery hearts, head of curly kale, head of black kale, entire bunch of water cress, head of romaine lettuce, entire bunch of dandelion, 5-7  lemons,

makes 65oz This recipe is per person.  you have to drink all 64oz. When I made this juice the first time there was not any watercress or dandelion in the store so I just went ahead without it. The second time I found dandelion, but still no watercress.

A body that is in an alkaline state cannot carry any disease. this is what I am learning from my research so drinking all of this juice was the most amazing feeling. I felt like any harm that I may have caused to my body was being erased. obviously you must keep this habit up to heal your body  , but it really felt great. Kristina talks about the natural high you feel when consuming all these amazing  healthy foods, and its true. I felt like I was on a natural high after I drank this juice. I had energy and I felt vibrant and happy. it was amazing. That night I fell into the most blissful sleep . I remember it so well because It had been a while since I slept that good. I had been flying and had a bit of jet lag from bouncing around the different time zones. Before drinking the juice I felt really wired and restless. Im making this juice sound like a miracle juice. who knows maybe it is, but I did feel revitalizing. I have tried this juice twice. I am looking into another juice with maybe not so many ingredients.

I would like to make Kristinas juice maybe once or twice a month. and then find a more simple  juice that will Alkalize the body with less ingredients to make more frequently. Lemon water helps Alkalize the body as well. I have been drinking lots of lemon water in the meantime. If the lemons your using are organic you can put the lemons with the peel in your water. If your lemons are not organic no biggie just remove the peel and put the lemon in your water without the peel. I have been mostly just removing the peels because I have not been buying organic lemons.

just a heads up. If this juice effects your body like a detox be sure to make this at home where you have access to a bathroom for a few hours. Do not attempt to risk it and go to work . Just felt the need to be honest I would hate for someone to be stuck in traffic or have an important interview or meeting to go to etc… so be sure to get familiar with how this juice will react to your body once you drink it..ok I will move on haaa ha

I have more experiences to share with raw food that I have been making and I am excited to share them next time… hope everyone enjoys Kristinas’ juice. if you try it. let me know how you like it!!!!!  feels good to be back !!! yay!!!

Good night !! Sleep tight!

Rest But NEVER quit :)

What an adventure this last month has been. From visiting family and friends in Toronto to a couple of amazing work weeks flying… I am exhausted. this week has been spent catching up on lots of much needed sleep. through all this craziness I managed to sneak in a trip to Vegas for a divorce party .  I have been traveling and on the go so much this month ,that Nutrition was a big… huge… fail … 🙁 . I tried my best, but I am transitioning into a new lifestyle so its not second nature to me yet. I feel I need to make some sort of a written plan, whether its a schedual, or some sort of agenda to keep me on track.

This month I felt very lost and overwhelmed by how I will implement all these changes in nutrition into my life. If I was home every night, this change would be so much easier. I would be home and the simple things like the grocery store  being close by would make it no problem to find healthy food, but with travelling it can be very challenging to get quality foods, especially since I don’t have a car of my own when I am away for work.  I have two challenges, first, how do I create an environment in my home that promotes heath and wellness, and sencondly, how do I bring this lifestyle with me on the road when I am away from the things that I conviently have access too when I’m home.

The other day I was at the grocery store and I was shopping for food to take with me for work. I was going to be gone for 5 days so shopping a little before hand saves me money. I felt so lost and overwhelmed… I feel like I have to watch my back now when I shop and at times I become very resentful because of it. during these time I feel that I should be able to walk into the grocery store and not question if my produce is gmo or full of cancerous pesticides.  If I choose the wrong item then I could be consuming Gmos and all sorts of awful poisons that can harm my health. Angry because corporations  are getting away with creating bads foods.  Our leaders, whether our government or who ever, are allowing these businesses to hurt us because of money. Even baby formula contains harmful chemicals and gmos.  Organic healthy food should be all that is provided for us and It should be affordable for everyone. It’s wrong. .but we are purchasing these items and as a result , they can sell them. We are partly responsible because we choose to support these corporations. My new thinking is If I cant afford good food one month that’s ok, so Instead I can avoid to purchase bad food. I don’t have to spend my money on processed foods either.

During this visit to the grocery store  I didn’t care what I bought. I grabbed salads to go, hummus and vegies and a bunch of other things I thought were healthy. I was exhausted and at that moment I didn’t care if these foods had GMOs or what was wrong, I was too exhausted to figure it out.  shopping is tricky because how am I supposed to know what I will feel like eating two or even three days from now..  I shopped, pack my lunch kit, and that was that .

After my stretch of time away for work, I came back and snapped out of  this funk , and decided to accept the reality .. (I go through my phases ) during this month I have been researching the benefits of a raw food diet, and lifestyle. I have also been researching the science behind the PH miracle.  Ph miracle is a preventative measure to take to keep your body in an Alkaline state. The research has proven that Disease cannot exist in an alkaline environment, and disease forms and thrives  when The body is too acidic. Its really amazng stuff. I have found a cancer prentative smoothie I want to try. Alkaline water is another study I have been reading. Trying to figure out how to drink alkaline water at home and at work ( good luck to me on that one  ). I will figure it out.

So Here is my goal to me. To create healthly living at work and at home. Smoothies are healthy for you and I have increased the amount I drink so how will I pull this off on the road? Enjoying fresh healthy smoothies  with me on the road. how many times a week can I aim to have them while at work?, and how when I don’t always have booster or jugo juice around?. How will I eat fresh and healthy foods while away?.

I will have to figure this out day by day. It seems hard now because It has not become a habit yet.  Change is always tricky once your trying to figure things out. But once these changes become familiar It will become second nature and It will be worth it. Until then I will be cursing while stumbling across all these changes.  This Month has been spent visiting, partying and researching. now Its time to start Implementing these changes. I’m very excited to make this cancer preventive smoothie . This smoothie is very powerful and Alkalizes your body.. yay.. I will keep you posted with how it goes and I will provide the recipe!!! Here I gooooooo  talk to you soon!!!

ps. there is an amazing Ap called Buycott. Its free. This app can be used in the grocery store when shopping. To use it, you scan the barcode of the item you are considering to purchase. Once you scan this item the app will tell you if this company supports GMO or not. Once you scan and find out, from there you can decide if you want to use your purchasing  power to support the Company or not. If we stick together and stop supporting this injustice then corporations will have no choice but to stop. They cant hurt us if we don’t let them, and we can change things if we all stick together.  hope you enjoy this useful tip!!!! 🙂

Girls Night!!!! Making lotions !!!! Yay!!!!

photo-1My Friend Sonja and I had a lotion and deodorant party!!!! I went to pay my friend a visit and when I arrived at her house she had all these ingredients laid out on her kitchen table and she said were making lotion!!!! I love this stuff and when I saw all these ingredients I became so excited to get started. My Friend Sonja is a very special friend of mine that I hold very close to my heart. She was inspired to make homemade lotion because  a friend of hers has a baby with eczema. She wanted to make something for the Baby that was free of harmful chemicals. photo(3)

After that, my friend Sonja was on the loose. 🙂 We stared our evening first making Deodorant. we added Arrowroot, Baking Soda that is free of Aluminum, and Almond oil. We melted bees wax, melted Cocoa butter wafers, melted coconut oil in mason jars. We placed the mason jars inside of a pot with water and melted the ingredients on the stove. To finish we added lime, and lemon essential oil for a nice scent.

photo(2) photo(9)

This was an experiment of trial and error. We both have made homemade deodorant in the past and we both felt like there was an ingredient missing. Adding bees wax and essential oil was a brilliant idea that Sonja came up with, and it makes a big difference. she bought all the ingredients, and deodorant sticks at community foods, our local health food store so we can make the products and place the deodorant in.

photo(4)You can also use a jar or an old deodorant stick as well. I just used some of our deodorant today that we made and it works great, it goes on smooth and smells really fresh. Great Quality deodorant without all the harmful chemicals that have been known to cause cancer. yay !!!!! it was easy to make and fun!!!!! and the more you do it the easier it gets.

photo(10)we made a stick each for each other, and Sonja sent a jar for my Mom. If everyone was aware of the harmful chemicals that are in a lot of  our beauty products we would all be making our own. especially after realizing how easy and inexpensive it is. it’s also a great way to spend some time with friends if your friends find making holistic products something of interest.

photo(6)photo(8)I Love Love Love this cream. Sonja and I had lots of fun and frustration with this one. This product was a little tricky and the clean up did take some time, but it was completely worth it. the way this cream feels on your skin is so nourishing. Sonja and I kept trying to come up with the right name to describe the feeling of this cream on our skin. we thought luxurious, clean, nourishing, soaking up in our skin . We could not describe just how good it felt. Its all natural and our skin was just absorbing this goodness… especially living in Calgary where it’s really dry, a good cream makes  world of a difference.

For this product we used coconut oil, beeswax, coco butter wafers,  and we melted all these together. We accidentally added the essential oils which we were supposed to add after at the end, but oh well we kept pushing through. We let the ingredients cool down. we let one batch cool in a blender and the other batch we let cool in a mixer. Once the ingredients cooled down we added aloe vera gel. we had the right measurement for one batch, and half of the right amount  for the other batch.

The batch that we mixed in the mixer worked wonderfully but the batch in the blender however Sonja really worked it. After a few times of getting her mixing tools stuck in the blade and almost 40 min of mixing she got a wonderful consistency. we noticed the batch that had the “right” measurement of Aloe was a bit more liquidy than what we were looking for. The mixer worked really well because it just blended through everything well. The Blender was a bit tricky because the ingredients were to dry for the blade to mix the hardened ingredients. Sonja added almond oil, and melted coconut oil to help. We made Mental  notes of what worked and what didn’t work, and what we will try next time, and how much ingredients we will add more of or less of etc….. I feel like the more we do something the better and easier it will be to make it in the future. we also added different  essential oils to the mix. one batch we did Rosewater, lemon, lime, and the other one we added vanilla oil. We also added  more melted  Cocoa butter wafers to both batches.

Why go through all this?? why not just buy body butter or creams in the store?? Sonja and I, and many other people want to learn how to make these beauty products because a lot of ingredients that are in our beauty products are not good for us. They are harmful and have been known to cause cancers along with other illnesses. Ignorance is bliss, but now that I know this ,I am consciously  aware now that  with my hard earned money, am paying for products that have the potential of harming my health. I choose now not to continue doing this and instead using my hard earned money to buy and make products that meet my beauty product needs without harming myself, and as a bonus this saves me money!!!! I have a lot to learn and it seems like a lot but I’m realizing now that just because something is unfamiliar to me does not mean it cannot be easily incorporated into my life. Once something becomes familiar it will then become easy. After melting ingredients and making these products with Sonja it has helped me see that It can be done and it can become easy once I get the hang of it. Once Sonja and I master these ingredients I will post the exact measurements and share the products with everyone.

Thank you Sonja for such a fun night, for all the laughs, all the love, and for supplying us with all the necessary ingredients to make our products. Love you to bits, so grateful to have such a special friend like you… Night Peeps!!! Happy creating !!!!

My Adventure with Meatballs

photo (3)Eating Healthy for me is a challenge. Especially while I’m on the road  for work. Being a Flight Attendant in the Airline industry is so fun, but it has its challenges. Especially when It comes to food. Finding an affordable place to eat can be a challenge depending on which city I am in, and after a few days of eating out of my lunch kit, my food grosses me out. Every time I have a Hot meal I am the happiest girl alive. Sometimes I am deprived of the basic necessitates such as warm food while  I’m at work . 🙂 While I was overnighting in Edmonton Alberta I had this amazing hotel room that’s bigger than my apartment, and that came with a stove. yay!! I was so excited to be able to have the chance to make a warm home cooked meal. I had an amazing work out at the hotels gym and then walked to the Grocery store to get started on my meal. The fresh air felt so nice since I had such a long flight the night before. Long flights are great but I often feel trapped in a metal tube towards the end of the night.

I got to Save on Foods grocery store and had no idea what I was going to make. Then I realized I could make Meatballs Yay!!!! I was inspired a week back by a colleague of mine named Laura who shared her Meatball recipe. I didn’t have all the spices so I improvised and made my own recipe, something very similar.

photo (1) photo (2)For $6 I found Lean Ground Turkey Breast, and I added chai seeds to the meat along with sea salt that I found in the Bulk section, and Romano Cheese which I also found in the Bulk section. Chai seeds are packed with fiber, protein, minerals, Omega-3, and antioxidants. I always have some with me in my lunch kit and I sprinkle Chai seeds on everything from my Salads to smoothies. Save on Foods Grocery Store carries Quality foods at great prices. With me being on the road finding spices and cheese in the bulk section allowed me to buy these ingredients so cheap and so I was able to make a yummy dinner. I bought Organic tomato sauce, garlic, Organic Basil, and I couldn’t resist on buying some delicious looking Olives to go with my meatballs.

photoI was so Happy that I had this day to myself to sleep in , workout, cook, and relax. I am always on the go, and trying to get so much stuff done in such  small amounts of time. The fact that I had all day In Edmonton with nothing to do made Cooking so relaxing and fun. It felt so good to have these quality ingredients that were so affordable. I didn’t have oil to cook with so I just used water to cook the meatballs and it worked great. I kept adding water as I needed. Once the meatballs where almost cooked I added the Tomato sauce, and Romano cheese . the flavor from the meat blended into the tomato sauce so perfectly. with little ingredients the Meatballs were so flavourful. once I plated these babys I sprinkled on some more cheese, and Yum!!!!!

photo (2)As I ate these meatballs I didn’t have a care in this world. 🙂 the gratitude I felt to be able to have this warm meal while at work was beyond words. I also bought some Kiwi which is a produce from the clean 15 produce list and had that as my appetizer. I was also able to buy a Banana, some organic Almonds, and some fresh Sushi to take with me to work for the next day. Save on Foods carries Sea Choice seafood. Sea choice is Ocean friendly seafood that’s made with sustainable fish and seafood.  www.seachoice.org . I also bought  Happy Planet Broccoli soup some dried Peas, and dried sugar snap peas to take with me as well. the total for all this food was 43 dollars. A good amount of these items were Organic. I hope there will be a Save on Foods grocery store near me soon!!!! you could also make this in a slow cooker if your at home and having one of those crazy days that comes with a never ending “to do list “. Leave it to cook in your slow cooker while you get your day done and have a nice warm meal ready for you by dinner time !!! if you try this meal. I hope it brings you as much joy as it did for me 🙂 Thanks for listening !!!

Price Look Up Codes

PLuPrice Look up codes (PLU)!!! I love knowing about the PLU codes. PLU codes are stickers found on your produce that help retailers and suppliers sort out and price produce. PLU codes are not there for customers but we have our hands on this wonderful piece of  information and we are going to use it to our advantage. PLU codes tells us if the produce is organic, conventionally grown, or GMO.

PLUconventionally grown is a 4 digit code that’s starts with the number 3 or 4. Organic is a 5 digit code starting with the number 9. GMO is a  5 digit code starting with 8. In my opinion if you come across the code 8 just throw this produce on the floor, if not, do not put this item in your shopping cart, and let them pick up the spill in Aisle 4.. 🙂 but don’t say you got this from me you will blow my cover. 🙂 .. code starting with 8 I have only seen once so that’s Great News!!!!pricePLU codes are a guide not a guarantee. If your grocer is a fan of GMO, then they can remove the PLU stickers or they could replace the GMO PLU with a conventional PLU. I have faith that one day GMOs will be taken off the Market completely, but for now I personally feel I can trust PLU codes for the most part.

Its also good to be familiar with labels. 100% organic means its 100% organic and you will find a USDA seal of approval. products that say Organic have at least 95% organic ingredients and will have a USDA seal of approval. Products labeled made with Organic ingredients means 70% of ingredients are organic and will not have a USDA seal of approval.

I love using these codes they are so helpful… Have fun with them look forward to writing again soon. Don’t make too much mess in Aisle 4 . Be discrete. 🙂

Talk to you soon!!!!!!

The Dirty Dozen and Clean 15 Produce List !!!!!

QuotesHope everyone has had a wonderful week!!!!! I have great information this week on how to eat healthy, and not have to choose between being  homeless or buying safe and healthy produce!!! :). I’m going to share the top 12 list of produce that must be organic (aka) “The Dirty Dozen” , and the top 15 produce that does not need to be Organic (aka) Clean 15. Here we Go!!!

Dirty Dozen * Must Be Organic* Beside each produce items in Brackets I will give you the number of pesticides that were found. 1 Apples (40) 2. Strawberries (60) 3. Grapes (30) 4. celery (60) 5. Peaches (60) 6. Spinach (50) 7. Sweet Bell Pepper (50) 8. Imported Nectarines(33) 9. Cucumbers (35) 10. Potatoes (35) 11. Cherry Tomatoes 12. Hot Peppers. * I didn’t get the pesticide count for numbers 11 and 12. But If they made the Dirty Dozen list I am going to assume the counts are in this ball park. Kale/Collard greens and Summer squash are in the Dirty Dozen plus lists. so those produce are high in pesticides and are recommended to be consumed organically. www.ewg.org/

Clean 15 (Yay)!!! *Does not need to be  Organic *!! 1.Corn (Be sure corn is GMO free) 2.Onions  3.Pineapple 4.Advocatos (yay) 5. Cabbage 6. Frozen sweet Peas. 7. Papayas(Be sure Papayas are GMO free) 8. Mangos 9. Asparagus 10. Eggplant 11. Kiwi 12. grapefruit 13. cantaloupe 14.Sweet Potatoes 15.Mushrooms.

This Information is based on scientific research studies that were conducted by scientists from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Federal Food and Drug Administration who are part of a health and research and advocacy organization called Environmental Working Group (EWG). For 9 years EWG has been ranking contamination on 48 popular fruits and vegies based on an analysis of over 28,000 samples. www.ewg.org/

Washing your Produce with a White Vinegar wash is so important. Experts have found that a White vinegar Wash kills 98%  of bacteria and removes pesticides. You can buy white vinegar in larger quantities that are more affordable at the dollar store compared to buying the already made pesticide cleaners for your produce from the grocers. I need to save as much as possible so I can have extra money to go dancing :). (I will give you the mixture Below )

Many Pesticides pose serious health risks and have been linked to brain and nervous system toxicity, cancers, hormone disruption, skin, eye, and lung irritations. Truthfully learning about all this is a bummer. I miss the days when all food was safe or at least I thought it was. I wonder sometimes if this is why so many people are becoming ill leaving us wondering how they got so sick. Are these foods making many of us ill? But getting over the hump of learning all this is empowering. It empowers us because we know the safe measures to take so that we are in fact eating healthy instead of only thinking we are.

I have found a fair amount of people that want to educate us on eating organic but it’s as if they forget that not all of us can afford to always eat Organic. They scream and shout from the roof tops about how thrilled that they are to be 100% Organic, and that’s Awesome and incredible. Its great to aim for that, but It left me a lot of times feeling bad and feeling like this health goal is not reachable for me. With the Dirty Dozen list and Clean 15 list I feel Inspired again. When I have the funds to buy Organic I will, and when It’s not possible I can pick from the clean 15 List and still feel great. We must do what we can with what we have , and that’s enough.

I have found supermarkets such as, the superstore and Co-op and Save on Foods to have a great selection of Organic produce at more affordable prices compared to The local health food grocery Store. Farmers Markets are also a great place to shop to get quality and affordable produce.

I hope this List Inspires you and gives you a bit more of a direction on what to buy. I hope this list lifts some weight off your shoulders so cooking and eating can be clean, fun, safe and healthy again. the way its supposed to be, and the way it should be. Happy Eating !!!

White Vinegar wash!!!! fill a bowl with water and add 1/8 to 1/2 cups of White vinegar depending on the size of your bowl. Soak for 15 to 20 minutes. I also use the sink when I have a lot of produce in that case, I add about 1 cup of vinegar. Very Effective way to wash Produce !!

*****Next Blog ***** Price Look up codes (PLU) what they are and how you can use them as a guide to know exactly which produce you have in your hands. using PLU Codes to tell you if your produce is  Organic, Conventional , or GMO *****

Hello world!

Hello World !!! This my first Blog and I’m so excited to be sharing my thoughts to whoever is willing to listen. Thank you for visiting my page!!!! I will be blogging about taking Baby steps into transitioning from everyday basic healthy diet to a more Organic and Holistic life style.

More and more we are learning about eating organic, and more and more people are moving towards a more Holistic Lifestyle. I have tried to focus on eating healthy, and exercise, to maintain good health. With foods being genetically modified and hormones, and antibiotics in meats etc… we are learning these foods are causing cancers along with many other illnesses. This is making me realize I better learn about food quick if I care about staying healthy. As consumers now we need to educate ourselves on the quality of foods we are eating.

In reality I’m not rich and these Organic foods are not cheap. Changing to Organic seems so overwhelming and so expensive. I’m realizing that being sick is expensive as well. So do I invest a little bit more in my health while I still have the choice? or… do I invest in medicine as a result of illness because of my lifestyle choices?  For now I choose to  do all I can do. I know it will be challenging but it will be worth it.  I was at the health food store the other day and this lady strolled by with a shopping cart full of beautiful healthy foods ( she thought she was cool ) (kidding ) .. here I am struggling to pay for the 5 items in my hand… but as the saying goes inch by inch is a sinch . A yard by Yard is hard.

So my blog will be about transitioning step by step. I will slowly be making changes with food, beauty products, cooking ingredients etc…. from hair and body to in the kitchen to healthy mind sets and more. I plan to share these changes along with the challenges and successes that come along with this. I hope to make this Blog fun, entertaining, helpful, and informative. I will try to keep my Blogs short sweet and to the point. I hope to achieve a more Holistic and Organic lifestyle by the end of the year. Hope you will join me on this journey who knows where it will take us!!!! 🙂

Thank you for reading,  talk to you soon!!!!!
